Post-Production

Throughout the making of this film I had to wear many different hats. I started as working with Andrew on the story. I came up with a few different basic premises but he wrote the script himself. Coming up with ideas for a sci-fi film was fun as well as challenging. I had to think of the logistics of how we could do it. The next task I had was working on the story board. As the cinematographer and the VFX artist I had the most freedom designing the lighting for the CGI scene. It was a real challenge figuring out how to film the green screen footage. However, using the colored lights in real life to match the lighting in the scene created a real connection between Andrew and the scene. The challenge associated with creating green screen effects was something I would be willing to do again because of the results I could achieve. There were a few lessons I learned during the making of this film. One of the biggest had to do with shooting against a green screen. Since I was doing the VFX...

Writing process

My Writing Process I've been doing a lot of writing to try and come up with the script for my next film. This process has consumed a lot of my time so I have decided to make an investigation post out of it. The following photos are of my film writing notebook. It basically just contains a lot of ideas and concepts for whatever project I'm currently working on. Lots of the time I end up re-writing or completely cutting ideas entirely. Right now I sort of have two ideas going on. The first is a second film that takes place in the gangster/crime genre. The second  is part of the weekend films series I'm trying to conclude. I will do my best to label the following photographs based on the project they relate to. Weekend Films Weekend Films Weekend Films Weekend Films Weekend Films Weekend Films Weekend Films Weekend Films Gangster/Crime Gangster/Crime Gangster/Crime Also I'm working on the VFX for my next Sci-fi ...

Weekend Films

Quality vs Quantity Last weekend I made the first of hopefully a series of micro/short films I will produce every weekend. This idea came to me when I watched the following video on youtube. the video talks about creating less content of higher quality vs more content of lower quality. It's important to know what skill phase your in in order to know if quality or quantity should be your focus. Darious explains that as a beginner it is most important to focus on quantity. Since you've just started out you're not going to be able to create quality because you don't have the skills. Currently I'm in between the beginner and intermediate stages. I have acquired the skills to create quality content but it still takes me a lot of time. What I'm trying to do through these weekend films is create a habit of using creativity. I have learned so much through these micro films. For starters, producing has become much less stressful sense I have become more used to it. ...

Marking Period 2 Reflection

Tristan After being a small part in Tristan's project I have been greatly inspired. I am consistently surprised and intrigued by Tristan's creative nature as well as ambitious goals. His films continue to get larger in scope and increasingly challenging. Tristan's latest film Finn Rider and the Mystery of Riku is no exception. Even though I was only around for a small part of the film I still was quite impressed by the things I saw. In his latest film there are a number of action sequences. Something that I have not even attempted. Action has always been a task that I deemed to demanding with my current knowledge. However, after being a part of Tristan's production process I have been inspired to attempt some action myself. The main things that I noticed is that acting is more relevant than ever to selling realistic action. Also being able to put in the time when it comes to rehearsing with actors is crucial. Making sure everyone knows the plan and the choreograp...
