Pre-Production

MP3 Reflection

Exploration of Ideas I had just finished post-production on Andrew's film and had begun pre-production on my next project. The focus for me now is still within my original conceptions but I have taken a different look at it. Instead of choosing one genre and one genre only I have decided to look more into genre blending. For my weekend films I looked at the idea of blending the neo-noir genre with the action genre. It was a good learning experience for me. Throughout the year I have been experimenting with many different genres. So far the one I am most pleased with is crime. The crime genre offers a wide range of options and opportunities for me to mix and match visual aesthetics. Planning The photographs below are of my film notebook which I use to plan out most everything. Production Since I haven't started production for my latest film yet, I'll just talk about the production process ...

Pre-Production

First Draft MC (V.O.): Todd saved my life.(sequence of what's being narrated) I was leaving the bar, on my way home when a guy jumped me in the alley.  Close up, guy comes at MC from behind with a knife to his throat. Mugger: Gimme everything you got and don’t make a scene. MC (nods in compliance) Mugger looks down and sees necklace on MC. Mugger: That’s a nice necklace you got there, are you a priest or something? MC: N-No. Mugger: So are you religious at all? Or is it just a fuckin gimick? Cause if there’s anything I hate more than a priest it’s a fuckin lying priest.  MC: I’m not a priest! I’m just a Christian, man ! Mugger: well you better start praying to your God boy cause your day of reckoning has come, you hear? MC (vo): My God had arrived: Todd. Mugger gets punched by Todd who’s smoking. Mugger: argh! Todd: Your Welcome. MC: Wh-wha? Who- Todd: (whistle, reaches down) damn thats a big knife MC: Who are you? Todd: The name's Todd,...

Brainstorming

In my last post I mentioned having done a good deal of pre-production work. I have continued to do so, and have started pre-production on another idea. My original production flow has been yet again reorganized. I was originally intending to drop another gangster/crime film, but instead I have started writing a script for a crime thriller. This is going to be more phycological and cerebral in design. I have just finished laying out the plot and have begun writing the first draft with a friend of mine. So right now there are four projects I have definitively laid out ahead of me: Crime Thriller, Sci-fi/Neo-Noir, and final part of the weekend films. With that being said here is some new pre-production work I've been cooking up. Brainstorming/Start of First Draft for Crime Thriller Setting:Present Morally Ambiguous More Ambiguous the more Universal More Specific less Universal Battle between consciousness and unconsciousness Theme/Global Issue/Question: What would you do without c...
