Camera Lenses - getting the film look

The Camera Lens The lens is an essential component of any camera. It is what controls the amount of light let into the camera, the magnification of the image being captured, and the focus distance of the image. There is no major difference in principle between a lens used for a still camera, a video camera, a telescope, a microscope, or other apparatus, but the details of design and construction are different. A lens might be permanently fixed to a camera, or it might be interchangeable with lenses of different focal length, apertures, and other properties. For film, the cameras we will be focusing on have the ability to switch between different lenses. Zoom Lenses The most well-known and used of all lenses. A Zoom lens comes standard on most DSLR cameras. The convenience of variable focal length comes at the cost of image quality, weight, aperture, and autofocus performance. Color Investigation

A Bit of History When we take a look at film we can see that it has an interesting relationship with color. Unlike all other visual arts film began in black and white. During this phase of film history filmmakers were able to create extreme contrast and exaggerated realities. There were still very clear limits to a world without color though. One filmmaker that truly utilizes the full extent of color is David Fincher. David Fincher Fincher is one of my favorite filmmakers of all time. He is able to guide the audience throughout a convoluted plot and prevent confusion. The video above mentions a few different ways that Fincher util...

MP2 Summary Post

Exploration of Ideas After the previous film I made which was within the gangster genre I have temporarily switched to the science fiction genre. Inorder to allow myself a creative break as well as time to learn about lighting I did not direct this film. Instead I worked with Andrew Khuu as the director of photography. This was not so much to alter my focus for the year but to practice the art of cinematography. I was also trying to see if the science fiction genre was one that I wanted to pursue. For now though, it seems as if I will stick with the gangster/crime genre. Personally I just find it easier to create as well as blend with other genres. For this reason I might move more into the direction of a crime thriller for my next project. Planning The investigations that I performed this marking period were selected to aid me in creating my next project. The first investigation that I performed was a lighting investigation. This was obviously intended to help me set up lighting...
